Heusden-Zolder

Heusden-Zolder is a village in the province of Limburg in Belgium. She has over 31.000 inhabitants and was founded on January 1, 1977 when the villages Heusden and Zolder merged.

From 1923 till 1992, Zolder was known for its coal mine. It was here that - on September 30, 1992 - the last coal mine in the Benelux, finally closed the doors.  The presence of many foreign workers in the mine, gave the town a multicultural population.
