Leopoldsburg
Leopoldsburg is best known for its vast ranges and barracks of the Belgian army. These areas were designed in 1835 as a defense against the forces of the dutch king by Leopold I, who stayed regulary in his Royal Villa.
Since June 3, 2007 Leopoldsburg has its own 'Walk Of Fame', a playful nod to Hollywood. As many famous flemish people grew up here, Leopoldsburg decided to honor them with their own star. These were placed at various locations in the pavement of the 'Nicolaylaan'. These people got their own star : tennis player Filip Dewulf, judoka Ingrid Berghmans, presenter Marcel Vanthilt, singer Walter Grootaers, Liliane Vertessen, film director Dominique Deruddere, writer J.M.H. Berckmans, Leo Caerts en Pukkelpop-organizer Chokri Mahassine. The 'Walk of Fame' of Leopoldsburg is unique in Belgium.
